A. Lewis Ward is a leading Houston attorney with forty years of experience. Mr. Ward is the founder and owner of A. Lewis Ward & Associates, a personal injury and business law firm, where he is renowned for his honesty, determination, and aggressive litigation skills. In 2015, the verdict in one of his cases was ranked as the ninth top verdict in the area of contracts litigation by Texas Lawyer.
Raised on a farm in north-central Florida, Mr. Ward launched his professional career working as an assistant director of farm records and tax service for the Florida Farm Bureau. As he tells it, after business differences left him looking for a new career, he decided to enroll at South Texas College of Law:
It was something that I had always thought about, but never pulled the trigger on. Then, I met a Harvard-educated lawyer and economist who suggested that I re-consider going into law, which I did. I enjoy helping people with special problems and I am very detail oriented, so it ended up suiting me really well.
Mr. Ward spent the majority of his law school career gaining experience as a legal clerk. Upon graduating in 1977, he spent several years practicing a variety of different types of law before deciding to specialize in personal injury and business law. Mr. Ward founded his firm A. Lewis Ward & Associates in 1992 and has been helping individuals and businesses with difficult legal matters since.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Ward has set himself apart from his peers through his many million dollar resolutions. Carrying with him the rural values of practical and creative strategizing, hard work, and integrity, he focuses on providing timely and knowledgeable legal advice alongside studied courtroom prowess. Additionally, Mr. Ward always goes above and beyond to achieve superior results, taking care to keep clients informed every step of the way. His aggressive pursuit of client interests both inside and outside of the courtroom has garnered Mr. Ward nationwide attention, most recently taking the form of a feature in Texas Lawyer for his verdict on a fraudulent real estate deal.
To maintain this prominence in his field and ensure his clients get the best possible results, Mr. Ward keeps his eye on prevailing trends in personal injury and business law. In particular, he commented on the rapid increase of technology over the years and the ways in which it has affected trials:
Things have evolved so fast, and the way they are being used in the courtroom is still evolving. Take e-discovery, for example. I think it is a great thing: not only does it provide a more efficient and environmentally friendly process of gathering evidence, but it moves the trial along quickly and also keeps the jurors engaged.
An active member of both his legal and civil community, Mr. Ward is involved in various sections of his state and city bar associations and sits on the board of directors for the Ensource Corporation. Additionally, he has served on the board of directors for the Robert Cummings Memorial Scholarship Fund and is the past president of the Houston Inner Loop Chapter of Business Networking International.
After four successful decades dedicated to law, Mr. Ward envisions a bright future ahead. In the coming years, he plans to mentor the next generation of lawyers in the hopes of one day passing the torch onto a league of capable attorneys. In his spare time, Mr. Ward enjoys reading, fishing, and traveling with his wife.
