Dr. Brian P. Jacob is an internationally recognized hernia and bariatric surgeon, teacher, and innovator based in New York City. Certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Jacob currently practices with The Laparoscopic Surgical Center of New York and Midtown Surgery Center where he performs a variety of surgical procedures, maintaining an emphasis on treating the diseases of hernia, groin pain, abdominal pain, and obesity. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center. For the past six years, Dr. Jacob has been selected as one of the best hernia surgeons in NYC by the New York Times and recognized by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. in New York Magazine as a Top Doctor.

As Dr. Jacob tells it, his interest in medicine was first piqued as an undergrad at the University of Michigan:

I ended up taking pre-med classes as an undergrad and loved it and did really well. Having come from a family of dentists, I figured medicine would be a good field to enter. I knew how rewarding it could be to help people lead better, healthier lives.

Dr. Jacob went on to earn his medical degree from Wayne State University in 1998 followed by a seven-year surgical residency at the Mount Sinai Medical Center. He rounded out his training with a fellowship in laparoscopy at New York Presbyterian Hospital (formerly Columbia Presbyterian) which he completed in 2004.

Since going into practice, Dr. Jacob has established himself as one of the foremost experts in hernia surgery. Over the course of his career, he has performed thousands of hernia procedures and cultivated a track record of superior outcomes. With extensive experience in robotic and minimally invasive surgery, patients can rest assured that Dr. Jacob will be providing the most up-to-date treatments that will result in an uneventful, rapid recovery.

As a thought-leader in his specialty, Dr. Jacob has authored or co-authored numerous book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals on topics that include robotic surgery as well as the first series of single incision laparoscopic TEP inguinal hernia repairs in the United States (a full list of his publications can be found here). Additionally, he recently co-edited the Society of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) Manual on Hernia Repair, a 600-page textbook devoted to hernia repair, and the SAGES Manual on Groin Pain, the only resource covering the entire spectrum of groin pain.

In his spare time, Dr. Jacob is an avid New York Giants football fan and an entrepreneur. He is the inventor of a patent on a novel medical device and the founder of IncLinx, a start-up company called that was recently acquired by AngelMD. Dr. Jacob is also the founder of The International Hernia Collaboration, Inc. where he currently serves as president.
