Chris Basler is a widely lauded family attorney based in Greenwood Village, Colorado. With a background in child psychology and extensive experience supporting and advocating for children in unsafe or undesirable situations, Mr. Basler has been a two-time winner of the ’10 Best Attorneys’ award from the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys, a two-time winner of the Avvo Clients’ Choice Award, and was a featured attorney for Lawyers of Distinction in 2017. He brings his near-decade of professional experience to bear at his recently-founded private practice, Basler Family Law, PLLC.
Before becoming a lawyer, Mr. Basler studied acting, and worked in Los Angeles for several years before making the switch and applying to law school. He attended Florida Coastal School of Law, where put his acting skills to good use, becoming the champion of the school’s mock trial team. Mr. Basler graduated in 2011 with his Juris Doctorate after multiple semesters on the Dean’s List.
Immediately upon finishing law school, Mr. Basler accepted a position as a guardian ad litem with Bettenburg, Sharshel & Maguire, LLC—an intense, high-stakes position involving the care of and responsibility for children at their most sensitive and vulnerable moments. Mr. Basler then spent several years honing his family law skills and gaining valuable experience at a number of local firms before founding Basler Family Law in 2017.
Today, Basler Family Law is quickly gaining traction as a prominent Denver-area family law firm. Mr. Basler is well-versed in a diverse range of family law concerns, including complex divorce, allocation of parental responsibilities, child support issues, contempt, relocation, grandparents' rights, and post-decree litigation. A skilled litigator, negotiator, and legal strategist, Mr. Basler prides himself on providing comprehensive legal services while never sacrificing his sensitivity to the emotional nature of many of his cases. By incorporating his past experience as a guardian ad litem, Mr. Basler ensures that the best interests of the children he serves are at the fore of any legal solution for which he advocates. For his sound judgment, his unmatched skill, and his genuine empathy for the families he serves, both the American Society of Legal Advocates and the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys have recognized Mr. Basler as a Top Attorney Under 40.
Working at the forefront of family law, Mr. Basler is able to observe trends and changes that may affect his clients as they occur. Speaking about both national trends and local changes, he notes:
On a national level, there’s a trend of moving away from fault divorce to no-fault divorce. People aren’t really punished, legally, for infidelity any more. Colorado has been that way for a while; here, what’s good for a child is good for a child—the judiciary is pretty consistent on finding something that’s fair.
Moving forward, Mr. Basler plans to expand his newly-founded firm, in the hopes of providing kind and competent family law services to anyone who needs them. “I want people to have an attorney who will tell it to them straight, really be honest with them, and help them figure out a sustainable solution for them going forward,” he explains. “I want to be someone who will really give them the best advice.”
