Based in Wayzata, Minnesota, Cortney S. LeNeave is an AV® Preeminent™ Rated personal injury attorney and a senior partner of Hunegs, LeNeave & Kvas. Mr. LeNeave has dedicated his thirty-year career to assisting individuals and families who have suffered catastrophic injuries or loss due to third-party negligence, with a focus on railroad accidents. Among many other prestigious accolades, he has been selected to Minnesota Super Lawyers® for his commitment to client success.
As he tells it, Mr. LeNeave was inspired to practice personal injury law because he felt the field would give him the chance to make a difference in the lives of others:
I happened to know a lawyer who practiced in personal injury and was intrigued by what he was doing. It is a profession where I can help others and truly have an impact on people’s lives.
After earning his Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law in 1987, Mr. LeNeave began his career as a law clerk with DeParcq Firm, one of the most well-known U.S. firms focused on representing injured railroad workers under the Federal Employer’s Liability Act. At DeParq, he had the opportunity to work alongside some of the finest trial lawyers in the state. Mr. LeNeave eventually went on to make partner with the prestigious firm, which now goes by the name of Hunegs, LeNeave & Kvas.
Today, Mr. LeNeave is known by both clients and colleagues alike as a diligent attorney who is devoted to fighting against some of the most powerful corporations on behalf of those he represents. He is particularly skilled at communicating to juries the life-changing impacts a serious injury can have on victims and their families. Mr. LeNeave has achieved some of the highest verdicts in the state. One such case, in which a man suffered a catastrophic brain injury from an overloaded dump truck, resulted in a $12.6 million award, one of the largest in Minnesota.
This case and many others like it have earned Mr. LeNeave membership into the Million and Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum®, recognition as a 'Top 100 Trial Lawyer' by the National Trial Lawyers, and numerous other awards. He is also honored to be appointed as the designated legal counsel for the United Transportation Union and the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers (SMART) to represent train and engine service employees.
As a leader in his field, Mr. LeNeave is sure to keep himself apprised of the latest developments in personal injury law. Notably, he commented on what he perceives as an attack on the civil justice system:
The right to a jury trial is one of the most critical issues that I think faces our citizens today. It is hard to know when it will be available to our clients or when it could unknowingly be taken away. That is why it is extremely important to stay up to date on this matter and lobby when necessary.
Since beginning his career more than three decades ago, Mr. LeNeave has helped countless injury victims, and their families receive due compensation for the physical and emotional pain they have experienced. Looking to the future, he plans to continue doing just that for as long as he can. In his rare free hours, he enjoys traveling with his wife and family, going skiing, playing golf, and hiking.
