Frank P. Fitzgerald is a nationally recognized leader in business, corporate, and banking law. With over forty years of experience, he is the founder of Fitzgerald Attorneys at Law, a prominent law firm serving clients in Springfield and East Longmeadow, Massachusetts as well as Hartford, Connecticut.
Now widely regarded as one of the top business attorneys in Western Massachusetts, Mr. Fitzgerald’s eminence in the field stems from his previous career in banking and small business. He recalls:
Before practicing law, I ran the small business lending department of a local bank for eight years where I helped people start their businesses. Originally, I did this by serving as their banker but I decided I could help them even more as their lawyer.
Since earning his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Western New England University School of Law in 1973, Mr. Fitzgerald has helped countless businesses both big and small navigate the legal matters associated with forming and operating a business. He has also continued his work in the banking industry and co-founded the Bank of Western Massachusetts in 1986 where he served as Chairman of the Board from 1986 until 2008.
In 1992, Mr. Fitzgerald founded Fitzgerald Attorneys at Law with the goal of offering an efficient, client-centered approach to legal representation. The firm currently employs seven attorneys whose collective experience spans a broad range of legal matters related to business law and other fields. Working with organizations ranging from large corporations to the bakery on the corner, Mr. Fitzgerald and his associates provide expert guidance on strategy, financing, business succession planning, regulatory compliance, and many other issues. Additionally, the firm helps clients with complex legal issues related to estate planning and probate administration, personal injury cases, real estate law, commercial litigation, and more.
Mr. Fitzgerald’s enduring success is rooted in his commitment to putting his clients first. Thanks to this approach, he has been honored by the United States Small Business Administration as its Small Business Financial Service Advocate of the Year, and has ensured that the people he works with remain clients for life. He noted:
We pride ourselves on the fact that we build relationships that last. Our clients stay with us from generation to generation. It’s important to the attorneys in our firm to keep in touch with the younger people in all of our clients’ businesses so we can continue to help them grow.
Outside of his legal practice, Mr. Fitzgerald is a dedicated member of his community and gives back in many ways. He is currently the Chairman of the Advisory Board of ROCA – Springfield, a nonprofit that helps young adults who have gotten in trouble with the law. Additionally, he has chaired or co-chaired many charitable fundraising efforts for organizations such as Ronald McDonald House, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Aspergers Association, Downs Syndrome Foundation, and the American Cancer Society, among many others. In his spare time, Mr. Fitzgerald enjoys playing golf and also serves as a volunteer Rules Official in the U.S.G.A. and Mass Golf Association tournaments.
