John Darer is a leading structured settlement expert, Certified Financial Transitionist (CeFT®), and Registered Settlement Planner. Drawing on over thirty years of practical hands-on settlement consulting and financial services experience, John assists a broad range of clients—including attorneys, insurance companies, and individuals—with making smart, informed decisions regarding money suddenly received in a lawsuit win or related means. As the founder and president of® LLC in Stamford, Connecticut, he takes a holistic approach to his work helping plaintiffs and their counsel move through the financial transition resulting from these major life events. John's reputation as one of the most knowledgeable and ethical professionals in his field has earned him recognition as a 2018 A.M. Best Recommended Structured Settlement Expert.

Looking back, John recalls his path to the settlement planning arena:

I started out as an insurance agent with Northwestern Mutual. I really enjoyed working with people and helping them protect themselves and their families' futures. About twenty-five years ago, I discovered the world of settlement planning and structured settlements, and I thought it was an exciting business and a great way to help people.

John’s diverse background in financial services is a valuable asset for his clients, whether he is assisting them in mediation, during discovery, post-settlement, "on the fly" New York CPLR Article 50A or Article 50B projections and analysis, or simply managing the stress of a transition. Having been certified as a financial transitionist and with in-depth and ongoing training from the Sudden Money® Institute’s Certified Financial Transitionist (CeFT®) program, he is uniquely equipped with protocols and tools to help prepare and guide clients through these life-changing financial decisions and the emotional challenges they entail. Today, John uses these skills in his work with domestic, London market, and other international clients and counsel on some of the most complex cases in aviation, personal injury, medical malpractice, environmental, transportation and maritime, employment, divorce, and commercial litigation.

As a knowledge leader in the settlement planning space, one of John’s key strengths is being able to break down complex financial ideas and concepts and articulate them in a way that empowers people of any knowledge level to feel confident in their decisions. Dedicated to educating his clients as well as the broader public, he offers clients a wide range of educational resources, including informative videos and podcasts. A top expert in his field, John has also penned over 5,000 articles on many different topics and trends in settlement planning.

After more than three decades dedicated to financial services, and over a quarter century dedicated to settlement planning, in particular, John looks forward to helping many more clients navigate a path to clearer decision making. As he notes, working in settlement planning is a labor of love, one which he hopes to enjoy for many years to come:

I get so much joy from the work that I do and the people that I serve. I want to stay happy and healthy and be able to continue to do this for as long as I can.
