Distinguished attorney John Sullivan Kenny is a partner and shareholder with Kenny & Norine. Based in Redding, California, Mr. Kenny is widely recognized throughout Northern California and Southern Oregon as an authority on land use, municipal law, construction disputes and business litigation. For his decades of experience helping to build communities, literally, from the ground up, Mr. Kenny has been rated AV® Preeminent™ by Martindale-Hubbell®, which is the highest peer-review rating a lawyer can achieve.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree from the University of San Francisco in 1963, Mr. Kenny was accepted to Hastings College of Law in San Francisco, where he graduated with his LL.B. in 1966. Mr. Kenny then served as a Captain in the United States Army Infantry before returning to California, where he spent his formative career years working as a Deputy City Attorney for the city and county of San Francisco. There, he managed wide-scale infrastructure projects including a $2 billion wastewater management project and a $100 million construction project.
In 1978, Mr. Kenny moved to Shasta County, where he has since developed a reputation for comprehensive client service and an inimitable depth of knowledge. In 1986, he joined Kenny & Norine and became a partner and shareholder in 1988. Today, clients come from all across Northern California and even Southern Oregon to seek out Mr. Kenny’s unmatched legal acumen in matters of construction, city infrastructure, and more.
After over half a century in his field, Mr. Kenny has become an established leader in his specialty. He is currently a member of the Public Law Section of the American Arbitration Association and the Shasta-Trinities County Bar Association.
Looking forward, Mr. Kenny plans to be more selective in the cases he takes on, noting that one of the privileges earned by working for so long is that he gets to work with clients about whom he feels passionate. When not working, Mr. Kenny enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren and is involved in community organizations including the Northern Valley Catholic Social Services, Shasta Community Health Center, and Catholic Schools of Northern Sacramento County.
