Lawrence Keitt is a distinguished civil litigation attorney with nearly forty years of experience providing quality and affordable legal services in South Carolina. He is the owner at the Law Office of Lawrence Keitt, where he specializes in cases relating to bankruptcy, personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, workers compensation, auto accidents, and criminal defense. Peer-rated for strong ethical standards by Martindale-Hubbell®, Mr. Keitt is dedicated to serving clients in the Orangeburg County area, guiding them through their legal challenges every step of the way.
As he tells it, from a young age, Mr. Keitt felt passionate about fighting for justice, so pursuing a career in the legal field came very naturally to him:
As a child coming of age during the civil rights era, I believed that everybody was entitled to be heard in a court of law.
Mr. Keitt attended the University of South Carolina for both his undergraduate and law degrees, earning his Bachelor of Science in history in 1975 and his Juris Doctor in 1978. Shortly after graduation, he was admitted to practice in South Carolina, followed by the U.S District Court, District of South Carolina in 1979 and the U.S. Court of Appeals, 4th Circuit in 1981.
Mr. Keitt has been in private practice for the last thirty-two years and is thoroughly experienced in handling a wide variety of legal matters involving annual audits, assurance, partner and partnership tax compliance, planning services, HR services, disputes, and investigations. As a committed member of the Orangeburg County community, Mr. Keitt proudly serves clients in the areas of Cayce, Columbia, West Columbia, Forest Acres, Dentsville, Lexington, Sumter, Irmo, Aiken, Bamberg, and St. Matthews.
With almost four decades of legal experience to draw from, Mr. Keitt is well versed in the process of civil litigation and keeps abreast of developments that may affect his practice down the road. Discussing the growing conservatism in today’s juries, he says:
They’ve all been so intimidated by the insurance companies that a big verdict may increase their insurance, and they never tell the jurors about how bad investments will cause your policies to go up.
Mr. Keitt navigates these growing challenges with professionalism and confidence, always assuring his clients that they are in competent hands and that he has their best interests at heart. After a long and successful career as a civil litigation attorney, Mr. Keitt looks forward to slowing down with hopes of retiring within the next five years. He still intends to remain involved in the field through writing and lecturing, happy to share the wisdom he has gained over the course of his professional journey.
