The San Diego area attorney is revered for her unmatched commitment to client satisfaction and her diverse skill in a wide range of legal issues, including criminal defense work, employment law, personal injury, and business law. She has been recognized by Super Lawyers® and maintains a 10.0/10.0 “Superb” rating on Avvo.
Ms. Damiani credits her decision to go into law to a combination of her father’s support and notable attorneys of her childhood. Despite having an interest in the law from a young age, she took a circuitous career path before deciding to go to law school:
My father was a mechanical engineer, but he wanted me to be a lawyer. Growing up, I remember reading about and following famous lawyers like Richard 'Racehorse' Haynes, Jerry Spence, and Melvin Belli. But I decided I wanted to be a journalist. I went to NYU, and I was working two jobs just trying to make ends meet as a journalist. And eventually, I decided to go to law school. It turned out to be a perfect fit, and my father was delighted.
Ms. Damiani attended California Western School of Law, where she was the recipient of the Richard D. Westbrook Trial Advocacy Award and was published in the California Western School of Law International Law Journal before graduating with her Juris Doctorate in 1988. She then immediately founded Lisa J. Damiani, Attorney at Law, a private practice she built from the ground up while working with prominent local criminal defense attorneys in San Diego. In 1993, she was recruited to join the white collar criminal defense practice group at McKenna & Cuneo, which merged with other firms and is now known as Dentons.
In 2000, Ms. Damiani struck out on her own once again, bringing more than a decade of experience to bear at the Damiani Law Group, where today she practices employment, labor, personal injury, and business litigation law as well as criminal defense. Most recently, she garnered national attention as the attorney for the family of James Holmes, who was charged with killing twelve people and injuring fifty-eight in a movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado.
For her unparalleled legal skill and the wisdom and creativity she brings to each case, Ms. Damiani has been the recipient of prestigious awards and honors, including being named Attorney of the Month by San Diego Attorney Journal and listed among the top lawyers in criminal, business, and employment law by San Diego Magazine. She was selected to the Bar Register of Preeminent Women Lawyers in its inaugural edition in 2011 and has been listed among the National Association of Distinguished Council’s Top One Percent and the National Trial Lawyers' Top 100 Lawyers. Additionally, Ms. Damiani he has been a widely sought after Continuing Legal Education lecturer for the California State Bar and the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, among others.
Looking forward, Ms. Damiani shows no signs of slowing down. She hopes to expand her practice in the next several years with the goal of focusing more on big-scale client interaction and training promising young associates to work with the details of legal representation. Outside of the office, she is a dedicated single parent.
