Michelle J. Aboud, M.D. is a distinguished physician based in Louisville, Kentucky. With over twenty years of experience, Dr. Aboud runs her private practice, Michelle Aboud Internal Medicine, PLLC, where she has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including Vitals' Patients’ Choice Award, On-Time Doctor Award, and Compassionate Doctor Recognition, as well as Top 10 Doctor awards at both state and local levels. In addition to her private practice, Dr. Aboud is also affiliated with a number of hospitals including Baptist Health Louisville, Baptist Health La Grange, Jewish Hospital & St Mary's Healthcare, and Norton Hospital.
As she tells it, Dr. Aboud initially began her career in business before going back to school to become a doctor, and hasn’t looked back since:
I left business to get a biology degree so I could get into medical school. I worked really hard at that time, working three or four jobs at a once to put myself through school. Even though it was hard, my passion saw me through. I made the decision later to go into internal medicine specifically, which I love because you have to take care of everything—all of the diagnosing and problem-solving. You also get the opportunity to really know your patients and their families, including all of their hardships and concerns. My patients remind me every day why I love what I do.
With an eye toward her medical dreams, Dr. Aboud attended the University of Louisville School of Medicine before completing her internal medicine internship and residency at the University Hospital of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Directly after residency, Dr. Aboud joined a private practice, Hornady, Costel, Bryant, Schreiber, and Aboud. She was there for ten years before starting her own independent private practice.
Today, Dr. Aboud runs her own private practice, Michelle Aboud Internal Medicine, PLLC, where she offers clients award-winning care with a personalized touch. As a general practitioner, Dr. Aboud offers everything from annual checkups and vaccinations to non-surgical weight-loss regimens and heartburn treatments. She also tests for and diagnoses a variety of different medical conditions, working closely with each patient to build a treatment regimen and referring patients to trustworthy and experienced specialists if needed. Her private practice is based on a concierge model which allows Dr. Aboud to offer same-day appointments and shorter wait times as well as the resources to carry out additional procedures that insurance may not pay for, such as expedited blood tests and preventative care screenings.
Dr. Aboud has based her practice around compassion towards her patients, providing them not only with superior medical care but also emotional support. She makes it a priority to treat each patient with genuine empathy. Speaking about her philosophy and the personal experiences which have contributed to her care model, she noted:
I think as a medical professional, it’s my job to provide support to the whole person, not just the physical symptoms. I've personally experienced a lot of the life stressors that many patients go through, including the loss of loved ones, divorce, and even financial problems. Because of these experiences, I have a greater ability to empathize with their feelings when they are going through medical hardships, and I think that enhances the level of care I can give.
As a leader in her field, Dr. Aboud is careful to keep her eye on advances in medicine. Regarding the impact this has on her patients, she explains:
I like to educate my patients about how their bodies work and are affected by diets, drugs and lifestyles changes that can improve their well-being without using drugs, so it's important that I stay on top of every development as it comes. For example, medical and natural advances in disorders like heart disease and diabetes have improved my patients' lives immensely, allowing them to take smaller doses or handle things more naturally with the same results. Cancer treatment is another rapidly developing field, and the life expectancy for many types of cancers has increased significantly in recent years. Now, when a cancer patient comes to me, I can often tell them honestly that it's not a death sentence, which is very encouraging and greatly improves their quality of life, giving them the strength to keep fighting.
After two decades dedicated to medicine, Dr. Aboud has built a practice based on a high standard of medical competence and empathetic patient care and shows no signs of slowing down. Her staff of caring, empathetic and highly educated employees have been with her since opening her private practice over seven years ago. Looking to the future, she anticipates expanding her practice while continuing to provide her clients with the award-winning care for which she has become known.
