Reginald E. McKamie is a Board Certified personal injury attorney based in Houston, Texas. With over thirty years of experience, Mr. McKamie has developed a reputation as a fearless and aggressive litigator and a loyal client advocate. Specializing in maritime matters with a diverse range of subspecialties, Mr. McKamie is AV® Rated by Martindale-Hubbell® and has been selected to Super Lawyers® each year since 2013.

As he tells it, Mr. McKamie was inspired to go into law by George Haley, an acclaimed attorney, diplomat, politician, and policy expert who served in seven presidential administrations:

The brother of Alex Haley, who wrote the book Roots, inspired me to be a lawyer. Alex Haley’s brother was George Haley and an attorney and State Senator in Kansas City. George Haley would often tell the young children in Kansas City, Kansas, 'someday, you will be a great lawyer.' That stuck with me as an impressionable eleven year old.

Although Mr. McKamie became a Captain in the U.S. Navy and a CPA before going into law, he never let go of the dream to be a lawyer like George Haley. While serving in the Navy, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. He also holds a Bachelors degree from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, and an M.B.A. from the University of Southern California. After graduating from U.S.C., Mr. McKamie accepted a position as an able-bodied seaman upon an ocean-going vessel, during which time he earned his license as an unlimited Master Mariner and as a Certified Public Accountant.

In 1986, Mr. McKamie graduated from the University of Houston Law Center with his Juris Doctorate, after which he returned to seafaring life as Captain of the S/S North Slope, the S/S Exxon Philadelphia, and the S/S Exxon Benicia. When Mr. McKamie transitioned back to dry land, he went to work building a legal career informed by the principles of justice and hard work he learned as a capable military service member. In 1989, he founded The Law Office of Reginald E. McKamie, Sr., P.C. with the promise that “We don’t just practice law, we make law,” and has been fearlessly advocating for his clients’ rights ever since.

Today Mr. McKamie is known for his industry-leading guidance in a wide range of legal matters but has become particularly sought after for his unparalleled expertise in maritime law. Combining the maritime knowledge he gained as a Navy Captain and Master Mariner with the extensive body of legal knowledge, Mr. McKamie has built a leading practice focusing on cases involving maritime personal injury, vessel collisions, the Jones Act, and the representation of mariners before the U.S. Coast Guard.

Aside from his unique experience in maritime law, Mr. McKamie’s extensive education in everything from business to accounting sets him apart from his competition and allows him to offer competent representation in a wide range of legal matters including tax law, white collar criminal defense, probate and business matters, and more. For his in-depth understanding of his areas of practice, his innovative legal strategy, and his compassionate client service, he has been recognized among the Nation’s Top One Percent by the National Association of Distinguished Counsel, and among the 10 Best In Client Satisfaction by the American Institute of Personal Injury Attorneys.

As a leader in his field, Mr. McKamie pays careful attention to trends and changes in his ever-evolving areas of specialty. Lately, he notes, he has noticed a shift in how cases related to maritime pollution are being handled:

In the area of maritime pollution, I have seen the increasing trend of matters that were once handled in the administrative arena being referred to the U.S. Justice Department as criminal matters.

With thirty successful years behind him, Mr. McKamie shows no signs of slowing down. Looking forward, he plans to focus on a limited number of cases so he can provide the best representation possible to every single one of his clients.
