Dr. Sandra Templeton is a successful Oncologist and surgeon focusing primarily on breast cancer care. While many physicians have the desire to go into medicine from a young age, for Dr. Templeton it took exploring the world to discover her passion. She always possessed an interest in math and science, but it wasn’t until she shadowed missionary physicians while teaching English in Thailand for a year that she realized medicine was her true calling.
Today, Dr. Templeton is the director of Templeton Breast Care, a breast cancer treatment and care facility she founded in 2010, which focuses on improving the survivability of breast cancer patients both before and after a diagnosis. She participates in various research programs alongside other specialists, allowing her to offer the most advanced treatment options to her patients. Dr. Templeton sees herself continuing to treat breast cancer patients and improving the quality of care she offers far into the future.
My favorite thing is taking care of women year after year, after they've completed all their chemotherapy, and seeing them in the future, enjoying their lives.
Dr. Templeton is an avid learner and focuses highly on the future of breast cancer treatment. In particular, she has a keen interest in the rapidly evolving trends in breat cancer treatment over the past two decades.
Breast cancer treatment is very different from what it was twenty years ago when it was a more surgical approach. Today, it is becoming more multi-disciplinary, which means that there are a lot of people that must be involved in the care of a patient. I think mammograms are still a very important tool, but if you look at the data, it is controversial as to whether mammograms save lives. This is because our current treatments are more effective than twenty years ago.
