Thomas V. Girardi is a renowned attorney based in Los Angeles, California. With fifty years of experience, Mr. Girardi has obtained numerous multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements for clients throughout his career and is widely regarded by his peers as one of the nation's top trial lawyers. He is a founding partner of the law firm Girardi & Keese where he specializes in handling claims involving Wrongful Death, Commercial Litigation, Products Liability, Bad Faith Insurance, and Toxic Torts.
For Mr. Girardi, his interest in law began when he was young. As he tells it, he was inspired to pursue a career in law because of both his innate desire to help people as well as his infatuation with the popular TV series Perry Mason, the American legal drama that chronicled the trials of a criminal defense lawyer:
I was prompted to practice law because of Perry Mason. I would watch it at seven o’clock every Saturday. He was such a gentleman, he never raised his voice and he was the perfect lawyer.
With his eye on his childhood dream, Mr. Girardi earned his Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School and went on to receive his Master of Laws at New York University School of Law. Once completing his education, Girardi wasted no time putting his stamp on the legal industry. He won his first medical malpractice verdict of over $1 million at the onset of his career and has since obtained numerous other multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements. To date, Mr. Girardi has tried over 100 jury cases over the course of his career.
What sets Mr. Girardi apart from many of his peers is his proficiency with high-profile complex cases against large companies such as Pacific, Gas & Electric Co. (PG&E) and Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Most notably, he worked on the Hinkley, California toxic tort case against PG&E made famous by the film Erin Brockovich. Whether tackling toxic tort, wrongful death or medical malpractice, Girardi always approaches each claim with equal parts tenacity and compassion.
By virtue of this long string of successes, Mr. Girardi has garnered much attention in the media and has received many prestigious awards and accolades. Among many other honors, he has been inducted into the Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame by the California State Bar and has received an invitation to assume the role of President of the prestigious International Academy of Trial Lawyers, an invitation-only worldwide organization, limited to 500 trial lawyers. Mr. Girardi is also the first trial lawyer to be appointed to the California Judicial Council, the policymaking body of the state courts.
As a leader in the legal field, Mr. Girardi is committed to sharing the benefit of his decades of experience with the next generation of lawyers. Beyond his private practice, he regularly gives seminars to prominent trial law organizations all over the country, while he also serves as an adjunct professor at his alma mater, Loyola Law School. In his capacity as a mentor, Mr. Girardi maintains a firm belief that experienced attorneys have a responsibility to educate law students and recent graduates of law school alike. He noted:
I think that good lawyers who have had success can reflect that success to younger lawyers to inspire them to do well. I have been very pleased with the reaction that we have received from young lawyers who have attended our seminars. I think it’s the duty of lawyers who have done well to try to give back.
Acting as a true bulwark against injustice for over half a century, Mr. Girardi shows no signs of slowing down. Looking to the future, he aims to cement his legacy as a true leader in his field by continuing to provide his clients with compassionate representation and inspiring budding young lawyers in his home state and across the country.
