Tigran Martinian is a nationally renowned trial attorney based in Los Angeles. With over ten years of experience, Mr. Martinian is the Founder of Martinian & Associates, Inc., where he focuses his practice on catastrophic personal injury, products liability, and state and federal criminal defense, as well as mass tort pharmaceutical litigation. Among many other honors, he has been recognized by The National Trial Lawyers as a Top 40 Under 40 attorney as well as one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers in California.
Born in Armenia, Mr. Martinian moved to Los Angeles in his late teens where he faced the many challenges that immigrants often have to endure. As he tells it, these early experiences played a pivotal role in his decision to become an attorney:
I became a lawyer to represent the underdogs. I hate to see little people being bullied by big corporations, insurance companies, the government. I like to stand up for the bullied people, and I bully those that bully my clients.
After earning his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in 1998, Mr. Martinian briefly enrolled in law school at the University of La Verne before taking some time off to work on Al Gore’s 2000 presidential campaign. He returned to law school at Abraham Lincoln University where he earned his Juris Doctor in 2004.
Mr. Martinian made his mark early in his career. Soon after passing his bar exam, he resolved his first criminal case at the preliminary hearing stage, with a full dismissal of all charges against his client who was accused of major insurance fraud. Shortly thereafter, in his first few civil trials in Santa Ana, Mr. Martinian obtained verdicts exceeding millions of dollars.
Now the head of a multi-million dollar law firm, Mr. Martinian has a proven track record of helping those who have been harmed by the wrongful conduct of others or named as a criminal defendant. He has continued to cultivate a reputation as a passionate and skillful attorney who is dedicated to finding justice for his clients. As an experienced trial attorney who was trained by legendary trial lawyers, he provides effective and aggressive representation in every case he tries.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Martinian has successfully collected more than $100 million in verdicts and settlements in both state and federal courts. This includes a notable recovery wherein Mr. Martinian obtained the largest broken arm verdict ($600,000) in California per defense lawyer.
Mr. Martinian’s success largely stems from his commitment to being a lifelong learner. He has trained both with Gerry Spence’s famous Trial Lawyer’s College as well as Trial By Human, an organization dedicated to training lawyers to take up the highest calling of the profession—fighting for people, rather than insurance companies or large corporations.
As a leader in his field, Mr. Martinian is himself a mentor, to both clients and fellow attorneys, in the arts of meditation and mindfulness. A Certified Meditation Instructor through MindValley, he understands the benefits that meditation can bring to the practice of law, and strives to help other attorneys incorporate those skills into their practices. He noted:
Many lawyers are depressed or overworked because of the stress involved in this profession. I recently became a meditation instructor to bring it into our practice and to bring help my colleagues become healthier, stronger, and sharper attorneys. The meditative process will help them to become better lawyers, better people, and bring in better results for their clients.
Looking to the future, Mr. Martinian plans to continue growing his law firm as well as his work as a meditation instructor, which he views as a way to give back to his profession. In his free time, Mr. Martinian enjoys learning martial arts. He is also a contemporary artist and an avid art collector.
